Additional funds were approved Thursday by the state Assembly that will provide support for the vulnerable ones.
Assembly Bill 308 was voted in favor by lawmakers to give the state Secretary of Social Development 50 million pesos or US $3 million.
The bill was previously approved by the Legislative Commission in Revenue and Budget.
The funds will strengthen assistance programs for low-income residents and non-profit organizations that provide services for the poor.
These programs have been criticized for years by opposition leaders due to its usage in exchange of votes during election campaigns to favor candidates who run under the governing party.
