Taxi driver murder suspect indicted
A teenager who was arrested over the weekend as a suspect of killing a taxi driver last month was indicted Tuesday by a state judge, said the Attorney General’s office.
Authorities said Kelvin Javier, 18, aka “El Negro”, is the alleged murderer of Gabriel Castillo Ayala, whose body was found March 12 inside a canal at Fraccionamiento Jardines de la Progreso neighborhood.
The body had several knife-made injuries.
The victim’s taxi cab was found March 11 impacted on a park’s fence at Colonia Conjunto Urbano Orizaba with several blood stains.
The suspect was arrested by state police agents on April 1 while walking at Colonia Fronteriza, close to the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.
The teenager attempted to flee and was combative towards police officers, said the state Secretary of Public Safety.
Authorities said the suspect had two arrest warrants — one for the homicide and another for carjacking.
The suspect might be involved in other crimes committed against taxi drivers, authorities said.
The judge decided the suspect must remain in jail while the trial moves forward and gave detectives and prosecutors six months to close the investigation.
Murder suspect arrested
A man who allegedly killed a state police officer’s brother was arrested Wednesday, said the state Secretary of Public Safety.
In a press release, authorities said Octavio, 31, was arrested at Fraccionamiento Las Lomas, where after observing the police officers attempted to abscond among the vehicles.
The suspect had an arrest warrant for the homicide of Dec. 29, 2015, Luis Ignacio Silva Corral murder at Residencial del Prado.
Authorities said the suspect and victim had an argument that led the arrested man to punch the police agent’s brother and attack him with a scissors.
The victim had several injuries on the face, head, and neck.
