A busy intersection in southern Mexicali will remain partially closed for a month in order to install water lines, said the Secretary of Infrastructure and Urban Development, or SIDUE in Spanish.
The agency said the water lines will be installed underneath the bridge located at Manuel Gómez Morín East Blvd. and Lázaro Cárdenas Blvd.
Those driving eastbound on Lázaro Cárdenas and attempting to turn left at the intersection will be forbidden from doing so, as well as those who try to turn left while driving southbound on Gómez Morín.
Drivers were asked to use alternative routes like Macristy Street and Carranza Blvd.
Gómez Morín Blvd. will be expanded to six lanes on a two-mile section from Lázaro Cárdenas to San Felipe Highway by July, according to authorities.
Men arrested for carjacking
Three men were arrested Sunday evening after allegedly committing a carjacking in a rural town of Mexicali Valley, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 7:47 p.m. a report was made by a 21-year-old man who said the suspects brandished a firearm against the victim to steal his vehicle, a black 2004 Honda Civic at Main Street of Ejido Michoacán de Ocampo two hours earlier.
The victim told police officers that the car had a GPS and was able to locate it.
Police officers arrived at the place indicated by the GPS and observed the suspects inside the vehicle.
The suspects tried to flee and one of them threw away a .38-caliber gun.
The suspects were arrested and identified as José “Doe”, 24; Marco “Doe”, 24; and Francisco “Doe”, 21.
The men were transported to the police headquarters.
Men rob teenager with knife
Two men were arrested Sunday evening after allegedly robbing a teenager with a knife close to the Downtown Port of Entry, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.’
Authorities said at 8:09 p.m. a robbery was reported at Michoacán Avenue and Cuyutlán Street at Colonia Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood.
A 16-year-old minor told officers the suspects brandished a two-inch knife to rob him a red speaker and a white LG cell phone.
Police officers found and arrested the suspects, and seized the items and the weapon.
The suspects were transported to the police headquarters, authorities said.
Couple arrested for sexual abuse
A man and a woman were arrested by state police officers and later indicted for a sexual abuse case against one of the suspect’s cousin, said the Attorney General’s office.
The suspects, who were identified as Ricardo Martín “Doe”, 24, and Guadalupe “Doe”, 22, were accused by prosecutors of sexual abuse against a 11-year-old girl.
Victim’ relatives file a lawsuit on Jan. against the couple, who reside at Larraga Avenue at Fraccionamiento Villa del Prado neighborhood.
Family members questioned the victim for her behavioral change, and answered the suspects committed the abuse against her and was told not to reveal any details.
Authorities examined the minor and the results revealed the sexual abuse.
The couple was booked in Mexicali Jail.
