Federal police officers arrived on scene to launch an investigation.

    Impeachment request denied

Assembly members unanimously declined a request to impeach one of their own, a state lawmaker said.

Assemblyman Armando Reyes –a member of the leftist Worker’s Party from Ensenada- said the Jurisdictional Commission addressed the proposal to impeach colleague René Mendívil, a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party who might run for Mayor of Tijuana in the upcoming midterm elections.

The impeachment process was requested by a citizen identified as Víctor Manuel Sánchez Varela, based in alleged violations of the Public Servants Responsibilities Law, Elections Code or the Penal Code.

“It lacks legal foundations,” Reyes said. “Given the denouncing party did not provide any proof or evidence, documents or any other instrument that by itself demonstrates possible conducts to begin an impeachment procedure, in this case constitutional requirements set in Article 92 were not met, so the request was dismissed.”

The accusation alleges the Tijuana lawmaker held anticipated campaigning during Mendívil’s recent Report of Activities event.

    Police agency seeks CALEA reaccreditation

The state Police Preventive Department is on route to become the first in Latin America to obtain its reaccreditation by the Commission on Accrediting for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), an official said.

State Secretary of Public Safety Daniel de la Rosa said this year the agency and the state Public Safety Academy are looking forward to retain the certification.

He said emergency centers got their accreditation last year.

In 2012, the state entered a list of institutions worldwide who obtained the Triple Arc designation.

De la Rosa said representatives from CALEA will arrive at the state on February 14 to begin auditing and set the goals to retain the accreditation based in 189 items evaluated.

Comments can be made from residents and sent to CALEA’s headquarters at 12575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.

The comments can also be sent through email at calea@calea.org.

Residents will be able to speak directly on February 15, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. with CALEA representatives by dialing (686) 558-6432.
