Three individuals were arrested Wednesday morning for their alleged connection to a carjacking incident, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 10:07 a.m. a carjacking incident was reported at Bachilleres Avenue and Luis Echeverría Street at Colonia Conjunto Urbano Universitario neighborhood in western Mexicali.
A 45-year-old woman told authorities a man approached her while at a blue 2006 vehicle with U.S. plates and brandished a firearm.
The suspect took from the victim 6,000 pesos or $300 and left on a blue 2013 Nissan Sentra with California plates.
Police officers found the suspected vehicle at Seventh Street at Colonia Pueblo Nuevo, just west of the Civic Center.
The driver attempted to flee in a southerly direction, authorities said.
The suspects stopped at Fraccionamiento San Ignacio after crashing against an abandoned structure.
Police officers arrested Jorge “Doe,” 22, Josué “Doe,” 25 and Sergio “Doe,” 30.
The suspects were transported to the police headquarters.
