    Endangered animal found dead

    A marine mammal under threat of extinction was found dead in the Sea of Cortes, Mexican authorities said Monday.

    The Vaquita was located at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday 16 miles north of San Felipe, said the Mexican Environmental Prosecutorial agency known in Spanish as Profepa.

    The finding was originally reported by locals to the non-profit organization Sea Shepherd.

    The 4-feet 10-inch animal was decomposed and had helix and knife injuries, authorities said.

    The Vaquita was sent to Profepa’s office in Mexicali and will be eventually transferred to a research center.

    The non-profit said about 30 Vaquitas are still alive in the Gulf of California.

    Two men found dead

    Two men were shot to dead Tuesday morning by a Mexicali police officer after allegedly committing a robbery at a tire shop, authorities said.

    The robbery was reported at 10:44 a.m. at Llantera Los Olivos at Fraccionamiento Real del Río subdivision in southern Mexicali, authorities said.

    The suspects attempted to rob the site but were repealed by another individual, the police said.

    While chasing the suspects a police officer was shot in the back.

    The injured agent was transported to Mexicali’s General Hospital.

    One of the suspects died at the scene while the second suspect died later at the hospital, the police said.

    Body found dead

    The body of a man was found dead and burned in rural Mexicali on Monday afternoon, according to the police.

    The victim was found at 1:23 p.m. in a dirt road between Ejido Delta and Ejido Nayarit rural towns. 

    The victim’s corpse also had injuries in one of the legs, authorities said.

    City employee drowns in canal

    A city employee was found dead inside a canal Monday morning, the police said.

    Gerardo Pabel Delgado Robles, age unknown and who works for the Department of Public Services was located by Colonia Ahumada neighborhood at 7 a.m.

    The victim died after his Jeep Cherokee submerged into the Tulichek canal.

    Authorities said the victim lost control of his vehicle and turned over into the canal.

    The deceased man was found at the driver’s seat, authorities said.
