Three American visitors were found by state, local and military personnel Tuesday at San Pedro Mártir Sierra, state Civil Protection director Antonio Rosquillas said.
The official said the visitors were found by members of the Mexican Marine Corps.
However, the tourists have not been rescued due to the soil conditions where they were located and strong winds, authorities said.
Rosquillas said authorities have been searching for the visitors since Monday.
The visitors entered the mountain area on June 20 and were expected to return by Friday.
The tourists have been identified only as a 61-year old man and two women ages 20 and 25, allegedly the man’s daughters.
Rescue staff will have to supply medicine to the man who suffers diabetes as well as water, food and other items, the agency reported.
Rescuers began ascending the mountain at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday to find the tourists, whom will have to walk for about eight hours to get rescued.
Three deaths reported due to heat
A state official said three people have died in Mexicali due to the heat wave.
Secretary of Public Health Guillermo Trejo said six people have been reported with severe dehydration and four with heat stroke.
The secretary asked residents to follow recommendations like drinking plenty of water, use light colored clothes, cover doors and windows appropriately and never stay inside a vehicle to avoid illnesses.
Statewide authorities have reported 54,311 cases of diarrhea caused by the weather.
Man indicted for public transit bus robbery
A man was indicted Tuesday for his alleged involvement of a Sept. 2 robbery of a public transit bus driver.
The Attorney General's office said a state judge indicted Eduardo Doe for the robbery case against the driver of an Amarillo y Blanco line bus at Fraccionamiento Valle de Puebla neighborhood in southeastern Mexicali.
The suspect and an accomplice allegedly brandished a firearm to the driver in order to rob passengers.
The suspects took about 1,700 pesos or $100.
The suspects attempted to flee but were arrested blocks ahead by Mexicali police officers.
