A 30-year-old man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly committing a vehicle robbery against a taxi driver along with another man who was able to flee, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said police agents arrested Luis Armando “Doe” at 4 a.m. at 27 de Enero Street at Ejido Islas Agrarias rural town northwest of Mexicali.
According to the victim, a 46-year-old taxi driver, the suspects requested his service at Fraccionamiento Valle de Puebla neighborhood in southeastern Mexicali.
While on board one of the suspects brandished a knife and threatened the victim.
The police said the suspects left on the vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Tsuru with number 617 of the TaxiPlus taxi line company.
Police officers found the taxi cab and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver tried to escape.
While on the chase, the suspects got stuck in a muddy street.
The suspect was transported to the police headquarters, authorities said.
Minor arrested after robbery
A 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly committing a robbery in southeastern Mexicali, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 7:25 p.m. police officers arrested Adem “Doe”, who along an accomplice allegedly took 520 pesos and $5 from a store located at Río San Ángel Street and Cholulteca Street at Fraccionamiento Valle de Puebla neighborhood.
The police said a report was made at the emergency dispatching center regarding the robbery.
After arrival police agents observed two suspects leaving the store.
Police officers followed and stopped one of the suspects who was in possession of the money.
The other suspect was able to flee, authorities said.
The minor, who was identified by the victim, was transported to the eastern police station.
