    Missing girl found

    A 7-year-old girl who was reported missing Tuesday by family members was found about 11 hours later, said the Attorney General’s office.

    The agency said relatives of Emyli Sughey López Flores reported the girl was missing from her residence.

    Family members filed a report with the State Investigating Unit for Unfound People.

    The agency reported the child’s disappearance at 9:36 a.m.

    The girl was reported found at 8:06 p.m.

    Ministerial police officers found the girl in an undisclosed area.

    City announces series of events

    The City of Mexicali announced a series of events during March to celebrate the 114th Anniversary of its foundation. 

    Mexicali Mayor Gustavo Sánchez said the month-long events begin Friday with a cultural event south of the city. 

    The events include sports races, parades, conferences, downtown tours, street cleaning, music festival in San Felipe, a marathon, a car show and a rondalla concert. 

    The official ceremony has been scheduled for March 14 at Centenario Square by the New River Boulevard.

    University celebrates 60 years

    The Autonomous University of Baja California celebrated Tuesday its sixtieth anniversary in a special ceremony held at the main campus theatre.

    Dean Juan Manuel Ocegueda said the state largest public college has become one of Mexico’s best colleges with the effort of government agencies and the community.

    “Six decades after its foundation the university is happy to be the pillar of the state and regions development,” Ocegueda said. “We have 52 percent of the states graduate programs.”

    Ocegueda said the college 2025 Vision project has on its goals to become one of the 50 best universities in Latin America.

    During the last 60 years over 150,000 students have graduated and have been hired nationwide in the public and private sectors, he underlined.

    As of today, the college has 130 undergraduate programs and 46 graduate programs while admitting six out of every 10 applicants.

    Governor Francisco Vega said the college is the most important institution in the state for promoting professionalism to Baja California youth and for the quality of its education.

    Man arrested for fraud

    A man was arrested Tuesday under charges of fraud, said the Attorney General’s office. 

    In a press release authorities said the suspect was identified as Francisco Javier “Doe,” no age reported.

    The suspect had several arrest warrants, authorities said.

    According to the agency the suspect had a vehicle importation business in which he requested customers their vehicles, documents and up to $200 for vehicle importation.

    Customers got receipts of the transaction but the documents were never filed with the Mexican Customs, the agency reported.

    Customers seek the devolution of their vehicles documents, and money, but to no avail. 

    The suspect allegedly did not return customers calls and forced them to file lawsuits, the agency said.
