    Recall vote bill introduced

A state lawmaker introduced a bill that, if enacted, would allow voters to request recall votes of elected officials.

Assemblywoman Rocío López Gorosave, a member of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party, proposed changes to the constitution and the electoral participation law to allow citizens to request directly a recall vote.

“Recall vote is one of the issues we found every day from residents,” she said. “This expresses in a consistent manner the social need of a mechanism that permits citizens to dismiss elected public servants.”

Under the law the state electoral board is in charge of recall vote.

So far no public official has been recalled in the state’s history.

The bill would allow voters to introduce recall requests at the electoral board.
