Three armed individuals robbed a southern Mexicali store to take two television sets, according to media reports.
The incident was reported at 8 pm at the Soriana store located in the corner of Anahuac Boulevard and Gomez Morin Boulevard.
Store employees told authorities the suspects arrived at the scene and made several shots to the roof.
The suspects then took the televisions that were close to the entrance and left the scene on a white Ford F 150 pickup.
The vehicle was left in the patio of an abandoned home located at Fraccionamiento Hacienda de Castilla neighborhood close to the store.
American fugitive arrested
A man who had an arrest warrant out of Riverside was apprehended Tuesday by state and Mexican agents, said the Department of Public Safety.
Authorities said the suspect was identified as Steven "Doe," 27, of Riverside.
State preventive police department agents found the suspect at Lazaro Cardenas Boulevard and Rio Santa Cruz Street at Colonia Nuevo Mexicali neighborhood in eastern Mexicali.
The suspect was unable to provide proper documentation about his legal presence in Mexico and officers verified his identification through the emergency center.
Agents determined the suspect had an arrest warrant for robbery and US Marshals have been trying to find the individual.
The suspect was turned to US authorities.
State launches school patrolling operation
State and city officials launched Tuesday a law enforcement operation that seeks to prevent trespassing and burglaries at schools during winter break.
State Secretary of Education Miguel Angel Mendoza said schools close Thursday and activities will resume until Jan. 8.
Sec. Mendoza asked administrators, teachers, students, staff and parents to keep an eye on schools in order to prevent burglars from entering to commit crimes.
The official delivered Mexicali Police Chief Alonso Mendez the keys of 35 schools located in neighborhoods with high crime rates.
