    Teachers announce class suspension

Teachers affiliated with the Local 37 of the National Education Workers Union, or SNTE in Spanish, announced class cancellation for Tuesday and Thursday.

In social media, Local 37 secretary general María Luisa Gutiérrez said teachers will stay at schools June 6, but will not provide any classes to students.

For June 8 teachers have been called to take over State Education System facilities all over the state.

Teachers demand owed salary payment for interim teachers and approval of retirement benefits for union members entitled to the benefit.

The state has paid several million dollars in owed salaries and has committed to approve additional retirement benefits.

State Secretary of Education Miguel Angel González asked teachers to provide classes in order to avoid from impacting students.

    Teenager caught with firearm

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Sunday in possession of a firearm with which allegedly shot a residential area several times, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

Authorities said a report was made at 6:57 p.m. Sunday evening by a man who asked police officers to apprehend the suspect at Santo Tomás Avenue and Bahía San Luis Street at Colonia Baja California, next to the international border.

Police agents found the teenager, who after observing the patrol cars attempted to flee on foot.

The minor, who was identified as Bryan “Doe,” was arrested in possession of a .25 caliber firearm loaded with two cartridges.

The suspect was transported to the police headquarters.

    Number of registered businesses decline

The number of registered companies opened in Baja California fell 27 percent in the last three years, a Mexican agency reported.

According to the Department of Economy Mexican Entrepreneurial Information System the amount of businesses decreased from 11,244 in 2013 to 8,198 in 2016.

Most of the registered companies belong to sectors to trade, transportation and communications and services.

    Party chair claims victory

The National Action Party Chair in Mexicali Javier Gutiérrez said the greatest winner of Sunday’s Mexican elections was his party.

Based on preliminary results of the elections held June 4 in the states of Coahuila, Nayarit, Mexico and Veracruz, the party leaders said that without a doubt his party was the biggest winner.

“As of today the National Action Party governs in 11 of the 32 states in Mexico and by the voters’ willingness in a few months we will govern in 13 states,” he said. “With no doubt this makes us feel proud of the effort made by our members in the elections held.”

However, the party officially only won in Nayarit, while in Coahuila preliminary results indicate the winner is the governing Institutional Revolutionary Party.

In the State of Mexico, gubernatorial candidate and former Presidential candidate Josefina Vázquez fell to fourth place with around 11 percent of votes.

In Veracruz, the party won 112 cities –over half of the state municipalities— including some of the largest cities.

Gutiérrez said his party will defend the votes won and will file legal claims were it corresponds.

The party leader said with the results the party is ready for the 2018 presidential election and the 2019 state gubernatorial election in Baja California.
