    Producers meet with lawmakers

A long meeting was held between wheat producers and state lawmakers in order to find a solution to make fair payments for their produce.

Assembly Speaker Rodolfo Olimpo led the gathering along with Agriculture, Livestock, and Fishing Legislative Commission Chair Armando Espinoza.

Producers’ Council President Javier Quintero demanded a solution during the meeting given wheat producers are getting low payments for their produce.

Besides, their counterparts from neighboring Sonora state are getting paid more with federal funds.

Producers said neither state nor federal officials have addressed the issue.

The prices paid for their produce are not enough to cover production costs, they said.

The parties will meet again April 29.

A special Assembly meeting will be scheduled to address the topic.

Assembly members agreed with producers to travel to Mexico City to seek additional funds.

    Official’s impeachment bill introduced

A state lawmaker introduced a bill to reform the law in order to make it easier to impeach elected officials.

Assemblywoman Rosalba López, a National Action Party member from Tijuana, said the proposal seeks to include omissions by public servants as motivation to move forward with impeachment procedures.

The bill also looks to punish those who avoid discipline or attempt to save public employees who incur in violations.

“Residents are tired of these situations, so I consider we must strengthen the issue and forbid cases like this to repeat in the future,” she said.

Lopez recalled impeachment procedures against former Mexicali and Tijuana officials that did not come to fruition.

Those cases are related to rival Institutional Revolutionary Party members.

The bill would include lawmakers who do not move forward with impeachment requests, even though the evidence shows clear violations.

The bill was turned to the Government, Legislative, and Constitutional Affairs Commission.
