    New budget procedure bill approved

A bill to change the way state and local budgets are green-lighted and submitted by six state lawmakers was approved in a legislative commission.

Government, Legislation and Constitution Commission members voted in favor of the bill that would allow residents to take part in the budget approval process.

The goal is to provide citizens with tools to make sure public moneys are spent in community needed projects.

Assemblyman Roberto Dávalos, a Tijuana member of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party, said the “Participative Budgets” will go down to neighborhoods to involve community members, who will commit to several actions in order to make sure budgets are expended to satisfy their necessities.

The bill, he said, will also bring more transparency and will improve residents’ quality of life.
