A state lawmaker launched a working group along with non-profit organizations to address environmental issues.
Assemblyman Jorge Núñez said the goal of the meeting was to provide possible updates to state law regarding the environment.
Many of those present expressed their concerns about the needed law to address problems that impact residents, especially during the Christmas season with the burning of fireworks and other combustion items.
The lawmaker admitted the circulation of irregular vehicles from the United States that have not been smog-inspected has become an issue due to their potential harm to residents’ health.
Also, drivers of vehicles that have not been registered with the state have taken part of accidents, including fatal ones that have left authorities in limbo due to their inability to locate the responsible party.
The group will meet again next month.
