    Duo caught with Totoaba

    A couple was arrested Wednesday afternoon south of San Felipe in possession of three pieces of Totoaba fish, a species that is forbidden due to danger of extinction, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

    Authorities said at 2:20 p.m. police officers and military personnel arrested Beatriz “Doe,” 48 and Rosario Arnoldo “Doe,” 50, at kilometer 9 checkpoint of the San Felipe-Puertecitos highway.

    The couple was riding on a blue 2001 Ford Mustang.

    The officers found the fish inside the vehicle.

    The couple was transported to Mexicali and presented to the Mexican prosecutorial office.

    Man killed while driving car

    A man was killed Wednesday night in eastern Mexicali when unknown suspects shot him to dead in eastern Mexicali while driving his vehicle, according to media reports.

    The victim was identified as Jorge Alberto Espitia Vázquez, 31, whom allegedly had criminal background related to kidnappings and false imprisonment.

    The victim was driving a gray 1998 Chevrolet Primz by Mexicali’s Institute of Technology at 8:50 p.m. when from a black Honda vehicle several shots were made.

    One of the shots had as target the victim’s head.

    A female passenger said she knew who the suspects were, but did not release them to the authorities, reported media outlets based on police logs.

    State police arrests three fugitives

    Three individuals who had active arrest warrants in the U.S. were caught by state Preventive police officers, said the Secretary of Public Safety.

    One of the suspects was identified as Gladys Bobabilla, 44, of Los Angeles, whom U.S. Marshals were looking for human trafficking.

    The woman was arrested at Agustín Melgar Street and López Mateos Boulevard in downtown.

    A second suspect was identified as Carter Melvin Christopher, 46, out of Boston, who was allegedly involved in drug trafficking and gun crimes.

    Christopher was found and arrested in a residence located at Río Culiacán Street at Colonia Independencia neighborhood.

    The third individual arrested was identified as Jonathan Salinas, 25, of San Bernardino, for drug possession crimes.

    Salinas was detained at Colonia Bellavista, just southeast of Calexico West Port of Entry.

    The individuals were turned to the National Immigration Institute for their removal from Mexico.
