A city official said almost 300 citations were given to transit bus drivers for violating a local ordinance that rules all public transit units must have the air conditioning equipment.
Municipal Transit System Director Alfredo Arenas said that during the summer high temperatures staff gave 270 fines to transit bus drivers for this violation.
He said it was due to users reports that the city was able to apply these fines.
Arenas also said between 85 and 87 percent of all transit buses complied with the ordinance.
Beginning this weekend drivers are not entitled to keep the air conditioning equipment on, he said.
Users can still report other violations like bus cleanness and other service issues to the city hotline 072 or even on the agency’s Facebook page.
