    City rejects more alcohol permits

The City of Mexicali said authorities rejected new permanent permits for sale of alcohol in rural areas that might impact community stores.

In a press release, authorities said the Boards of Moral, Civic and Material Improvement, which are stores managed by the community to spend its revenue in local projects, are autonomous and representative of community interests.

The city made a commitment to regularize all standing permits that have been given to stores and other retail businesses in Mexicali Valley.

However, the city will make sure community stores are not impacted by the old permits that will get hand-changed.

The city will also create working groups to address the issue.

As of today, half of the community stores are closed.
