    Gas station owners meet lawmaker

A group of gas station owners met Congresswoman Gina Cruz in order to address gasoline high prices.

Wholesale Fuel and Oil National Group Chair Miguel Galván said during the meeting gas station owners have lost competitiveness compared to the owners in the United States due to the high prices set by the federal government’s Treasury Department.

The agency announced recently a new price increase for gas and diesel, he said.

Galván said between 25 to 30 percent of border shoppers opt to purchase gasoline in the United States due to price differentiation.

The Mexican government decided years ago to homologate gas prices with American stations, which since has been fluctuating up and down.

However, the measure has not been applied for months, he added.

The businessman recalled oil market in Mexico was opened in April for free importation, but no company has imported a single gallon of gas due to lack of infrastructure.

The situation will worsen when prices fluctuate in the new free market on 2018.

Congresswoman Cruz made a commitment to work on the matter to find a solution.
