    Industry growth reported in April

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography, known in Spanish as INEGI, released the results of its Monthly Industrial Activity Poll that said during April the state of Baja California observed a 4.5 percent increase during that month.

Secretary of Economic Development Carlo Bonfante said the increase is the second largest among the northern Mexican border states and well above the national climb of 1.9 percent.

Mining increased 15 percent, Manufacturing did so 6.4 percent, energy production 5.5 percent and construction barely 0.5 percent, he said.

According to the report this is the twentieth consecutive month of industrial growth in the state.

Bonfante said construction will observe an increase within the next months due to upcoming public-private partnerships projects.

The secretary added that the fact the report was released after several months provides agencies more precise short-term statistics for a better understanding of industrial activity.
