A San Felipe man was sentenced to 50 years in state prison for the murder of a woman who was found dead over a decade ago.
The Attorney General’s office said Ernesto López Aguilar, 59, was given the sentence by a San Felipe Judge.
Authorities said on Dec. 30, 2005, the man’s girlfriend Alicia Luna Cárdenas was found dead inside her residence at Islas Madagascar Avenue at Colonia Los Arcos neighborhood in San Felipe.
The woman’s body had at least 15 injuries on the head caused by a hammer.
Authorities said the man suspected his girlfriend was cheating on him and began a discussion that led to the assault.
After finding out the woman was dead, López Aguilar fled from the city and attempted to abscond in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
The suspect was arrested on April 23, 2014 at that city.
Robbery suspect indicted
A man who allegedly committed a robbery against a pharmacy employee last week was indicted by a state judge, said the Attorney General’s office.
According to the agency, César Alberto “Doe” was arrested after a robbery was reported at Farmacia Benavides from Lázaro Cárdenas Blvd. and Río Champotón Street at Fraccionamiento Bugambilias neighborhood.
The police said the suspect allegedly entered the business April 18 at 9:45 p.m. and brandished a firearm against an employee to demand money.
The suspect fled on feet with 542 pesos or US $32.
Local police officers found and arrested the suspect moments later.
Soles appeals league decision
Soles de Mexicali basketball club filed an appeal before three organizations regarding the official April 5 loss during Game 2 of the final series.
The document was introduced with the National Professional Basketball League, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Americas and the International Basketball Federation.
The team requested a revision and overturn of the decision that gave Pioneros de Quintana Roo the victory and eventually the championship title in the 2015-2016 season.
Originally, Soles won 73-72 on Game 2, but the league decided to give Pioneros the victory after a three-point shot.
Soles said the shot was made with no time on the clock.
However, Pioneros filed a claim and was given the win on Game 2.
Soles appealed that decision on April 7 based on the league’s and FIBA’s regulations that mandates no referee decision can be modified.
Soles said the victory was given with no solid arguments from the league.
