    Party leader demands legislative positions

The state chair of a political party asked election officials to assign the proportional representation legislative seats earned by his institution during the June midterm elections appropriately.

Social Encounter Party state Chair Luis Moreno demanded from the State Electoral Institute (IEEPC in Spanish) an adequate assignment of the last eight legislative seats still in discussion.

IEEPC Board President Javier Garay said the seats will be defined during the course of the weekend.

In the meantime, Moreno recalled election law says political parties have the right to obtain at least one of these seats if candidates were registered in half of the 17 districts and 3 percent of total votes.

Moreno said the Institutional Revolutionary Party did not comply with these requirements given it ran under a coalition with other political organizations.

“These record-correcting statement is released in case that the Institute violates by sidestepping on it and does not gives us our right to have at least two assembly seats under this principle in the upcoming Legislature and disobeying a constitutional mandate,” Moreno said.

The state chair made it clear that his party will use all the legal resources available to defend people’s votes.

    Millions transferred to AG’s office

State lawmakers approved the transfer of over two dozen million pesos that will serve the Attorney General’s office to build new facilities.

Assembly members voted in favor of transferring 25.9 million pesos or $1.44 million for the construction of new offices in Tijuana, Ensenada en San Quintín for the alternative justice program and the traditional penal justice system.

The state will not incur in additional expenditures, given the Attorney General’s office reduced similar spending on software program licensing and others.
