    Robbery suspect arrested

    A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly committing a robbery against a taxi driver, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

    Authorities said at 12:30 p.m. an armed robbery was reported to the emergency center and the victim found the suspect inside Hotel Belair at Sonora Street.

    The victim, a 49-year-old man, told authorities the man brandished a firearm to rob him a white 2013 Nissan Tsuru that he uses as a taxi cab for Taxi Plus company.

    Police officers arrived on scene and the suspect fled on foot after observing the law enforcement agents.

    The suspect then tried to steal from a citizen a 2005 gray Chevrolet Astra.

    The alleged robber fled and crashed the vehicle against a patrol car.

    The suspect, who was identified as Edgar Ivan “Doe,” 38, was arrested and transported to the police headquarters.

     

    Armed men steal teller machine

    Three armed men and a woman stole an automatic teller machine inside a convenience store at Fraccionamiento Los Pinos subdivision early Friday, according to media reports.

    The suspects allegedly took with them about 300,000 pesos or $16,667.

    According to the reports, the suspects arrived at the Oxxo convenience store located at Fresnos Street and Justo Sierra Avenue.

    Store employees told police officers the suspects knocked on the door and brandished a firearm to force their entry.

    Two of the male suspects kept watching the employees while the woman and another man went straight to the machine and began working on it.

    In less than 30 minutes and with the usage of several tools the suspects were able to access the cash, which was loaded into the machine earlier.

    The suspects fled on a Volkswagen Jetta.

     

    Taxi robbed in Tecate found in highway

    A man was arrested Thursday at the Tijuana Highway while driving a taxi cab that was reported stolen in Tecate, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

    Authorities said at 11 a.m. a report was made at the emergency center regarding the robbery of a yellow 2001 Dodge Neon.

    The victim was identified as Onan Guzmán Lozano, 30, of Tecate, who said the suspect used a knife to steal the car.

    Mexicali police officers searched the area and found the vehicle at the SuKarne meat plant west of the city.

    Police agents stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, who was identified as Leonardo Miguel “Doe,” 21.

    The suspect was transported to the police headquarters.

     

    High temperatures expected

    A Mexican federal agency said very high temperatures are expected this weekend.

    The Baja California Peninsula Organism of the National Water Commission, or Conagua in Spanish, said the city will witness up to 47 Celsius degrees temperatures or 116 Fahrenheit degrees.

    The agency asked residents to take precautions and stay alert for any warnings from authorities.

    According to Conagua, on June the thermometer reached 49.5 Celsius degrees, the second highest in the last 68 years.

    Historically, the highest temperature reported for a month of June was in 2013 with 49.8 Celsius degrees.

    According to the agency the highest temperatures observed in the city are reported on June, July and August.

    The highest temperature ever was reported on July 1995 with 52 Celsius degrees.

    Conagua asked Mexicali Valley residents to stay away from canals due to the presence of Naegleria fowleri, a life-threatening virus.
