Retail and wholesale trade revenue increased in February, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, or INEGI in Spanish.
The Mexican agency said retail trade revenue augmented 17.3 percent, the seventeenth month of consecutive increase.
Employment in this activity also increased 8.8 percent, well over the 1.5 percent reported at the national level.
The INEGI said wholesale trade jumped 11.7 percent during the second month of the year. The figure is above the 7.8 percent increase nationwide.
Employment in wholesale trade also increased 8.1 percent, while the country average was 5.4 percent.
Former Marine involved in crash
A former U.S. Marine allegedly took part in an accident that left damages to three homes and a blackout in a southern Mexicali neighborhood, according to media reports.
The accident was reported minutes after midnight on Saturday at Paseo del Agua Street at Bordo Wisteria neighborhood.
Local and state police officers arrived on scene after residents called authorities to report the accident.
According to authorities, a driver impacted on a brown Chevrolet Silverado pickup with California plates after driving well over the speed limit.
For unknown reasons, the driver crashed against three residences and an electricity poll owned by the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission.
Carlos Ernesto Gutiérrez, a former U.S. Marine from Coachella, was injured during the accident.
The driver was transported to the General Hospital.
According to Mexicali media outlets, authorities could not report if the man was driving under the influence.
Man shot twice in rural town
A 30-year-old man was shot twice Sunday night in a rural town of Mexicali Valley, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 9:25 p.m. a report was made regarding the shooting against Alonso Pimentel Cortez at Ejido Tabasco in rural Mexicali.
The man was shot on the left side of the chest area and on the right leg.
The victim’s wife transported the man on a green 1992 Jeep Cherokee to a San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora clinic.
The man died at 11 p.m., authorities said.
The suspect was an unidentified 28-year-old individual who left scene on a white 1987 Honda Accord.
Police officers tried to find the suspect in the surrounding areas of the town but to no avail.
Teacher testing begins
State authorities reported no major incidents during the teacher testing applied Saturday.
Staff from the Basic Education Pedagogical Technical Assessment Office provided the seven-hour testing for teachers who aspire to become Assistant Principals, Supervisors, Inspectors, Technical Counselors, and Teaching Chiefs on Saturday.
In total, 1,640 teachers got the test statewide at 22 schools. Of those, 612 were from Mexicali, authorities said.
A group of teachers who try to become School Principals took the test Sunday.
The testing is part of the recent Education Reform that mandates every instructor must take a test to get promoted.
The evaluation, that includes knowledge, abilities, and ethics, seeks to make sure the best teachers lead the educational activities nationwide, authorities said.
