A state police officer was arrested by Mexicali Police for negligent shooting.
The arrest took place Saturday evening in an undisclosed area.
The suspect’s wife told the police the state police officer, who was not immediately identified, allegedly shot a firearm three times.
The agent is assigned as a bodyguard, La Voz newspaper said.
Police agents were found at the scene three bullet casings.
The state trooper was transported to the Police Headquarters.
Men injured in a shooting
An unknown individual allegedly shot two men who got injured.
The incident was reported to the police at 5:23 a.m. Saturday in the Colonia Leandro Valle area.
Police agents found at the scene 25 bullet casings of .45 and .40 calibers.
Upon arrival, the police found a 28-year-old man. The second victim was transported in a private vehicle to an undisclosed hospital.
The grandmother of the injured man told the police the shooting took place around 4 a.m.
The woman told the police after hearing the shooting her grandson left a residence with blood stains on both legs.
The victim, who is a US citizen, was taken to an American hospital.
No information was disclosed about the suspects.
Senior security guard seriously injured
A 60-year-old man was seriously injured Monday after unknown individuals robbed a car wash in southern Mexicali.
The incident took place in a car wash located close to the intersection of Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard and Anáhuac Boulevard.
The victim was assaulted and found unconscious.
A reporting party told the police that upon opening the business employees found the injured guard.
Also, the reporting party told the police suspects robbed about 5,000 pesos from the cash register.
Red Cross paramedics transported the injured man to the General Hospital.
El Centro man sought by Palm Springs Police arrested
An El Centro man who was sought for allegedly fleeing from a US federal prison and methamphetamine smuggling was arrested close to Downtown Mexicali.
The state Department of Public Safety said state police officers arrested Roberto Miguel “N,” with no age reported.
The arrest took place close to the intersection of Justo Sierra Boulevard and José María Larroque Avenue in the Colonia Nueva subdivision.
According to the agency, police agents found the suspect in the area and for unknown reasons the individual was detained for inspection.
The agency said the suspect was sought by Palm Springs Police Department detectives as an escapee from a US federal prison. Also, the agency said Roberto Miguel was also sought for methamphetamine smuggling.
State police officers arrested the suspect and turned the detained man to the National Immigration Institute for his deportation.
Women dead in car accident
Two women died early Wednesday after crashing a tree.
La Voz newspaper said the incident took place in the Fraccionamiento Fovissste area.
The victims were identified as Laila, 28, and Milca, 26.
The victims were traveling in a gray Dodge Attitude.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on Gabriel Mancera Street.
The vehicle crashed into a tree located on Montejano Boulevard.
Homicide reduction reported
Mexicali Police Chief Pedro Ariel Mendívil said the city has recorded a significant reduction in homicides.
The city moves from 16 to 29 among the top 50 municipalities with the largest concentration of homicides, the chief said.
According to the chief, last year the city recorded 55 homicides, while this year the figure went down to 32.
Mendívil said while the city observed a 40 percent increase in homicides in a previous couple of years, Mexicali now reports a 38 percent decline.
The report says little over half of homicides are committed with firearms.
However, the police chief admitted there’s much to do in terms of addressing crime.
Business robberies increased by 15 percent. Almost nine of every ten business robberies occur in three convenience store chains.
Chief Mendívil said complaints and reports filed with the State Attorney General’s office went down from over 40,000 in 2015 to 32,000 in 2019.
The police seek to record this year less than 274 homicides.
Armed men nabbed in rural Mexicali
Three armed individuals were arrested in two separate incidents, the state Department of Public Safety said.
According to the agency, one of the arrests took place in the Guadalupe Victoria rural town.
There, state troopers arrested Ángel Alberto “N,” no age reported.
The suspect was in alleged possession of a loaded .38 caliber firearm.
In the Ejido Marítimo town police officers arrested Manuel Alfonso “N,” of Mexicali, and José “N,” of the Valle de la Trinidad area.
The suspects were nabbed with a loaded shotgun, six firearm magazines, and 128 ammunition cartridges.
The suspects were traveling in a 2012 Honda Civic that was reported stolen and had plates from another vehicle.
The suspects were turned to a prosecutorial agency for processing.
