The Assembly Speaker demanded federal agencies in recent days to expedite and simplify the processing of documents to provide humanitarian visas to immigrants in the state in order to regularize their presence in the country and access jobs.
Assembly Speaker Job Montoya, with the leftist Citizens Movement, introduced a resolution during the most recent Assembly meeting that was approved unanimously.
“Baja California keeps a tradition to receive those who need it by opening its doors to thousands of refugees from other parts of the world, especially Haitians who have seen in our land a way to develop themselves by contributing through their work the growth of our state,” Montoya said.
The lawmaker said the Mexican immigration policy is based on fundamental principles that help understand the migratory phenomenon in a comprehensive manner, including respect of human rights, hospitality, solidarity, family unity, as well as cultural and social integration, among others.
The issue was presented in March by the Female Lawyer Bar Association María Sandoval de Zarco before federal officials by making public the fact that Haitian immigrants have faced challenges to file for documents and visas.

Desert bighorn sheep received at City Zoo
Representatives of a Mexican federal agency transported a desert bighorn sheep animal in bad shape to city zoo after it was found by mountain visitors.
The city of Mexicali said the animal has been attended by local veterinarians.
City Zoo Director Jose Luis Garcia said the sheep was received Sunday afternoon from staff with Mexico's Federal Attorney office for Environmental Protection, or Profepa in Spanish.
The sheep was found by mountain climbers with several injuries.
City Zoo personnel immediately provided attention to the animal that remains in a refrigerated area.
Garcia said if the sheep improves its health conditions it will be transferred to another zoo area.
Public transit companies impacted by diesel price
The increase of diesel price has caused the loss of a quarter of public transit bus companies, said the Transportation Association President Rafael Naranjo.
In a press release the transportation company leader said the crisis is so severe company owners will be unable to recover.
Naranjo said vehicle parts, fuel and tax increases will cause the inability to private companies to renew buses as mandated by state law.
The transportation leader said due to the increased operating costs of company owners will not be capable to purchase new vehicles that can be as old as 10 years to operate.
Naranjo said that while other states government officials have sought options to subsidize public transit fees in Mexicali nobody is worried for the issue and no one wants to be accountable for the issue.
“Transportation companies are making a big effort to provide service, but we also need support to manage the crisis that impacts our sector,” Naranjo added.
The leader said the city must reset transit routes as well.
