No major illnesses found in immigrants

A state health official said no major sicknesses have been detected among African and Haitian immigrants who have recently flocked to Baja California.

State Secretary of Public Health Guillermo Trejo said the agency has provided 5,553 consultations statewide at shelters opened for immigrants.

Of those, 782 have been done in Mexicali, he said.

The official also said 64 pre-natal consultations have been made statewide, of which 25 were done in Mexicali.

Trejo said immigrants have received 191 dental services and 101 patients were attended for severe diarrhea.

The agency has kept a close watch to prevent any epidemiologic issue, the secretary said.

The services have been provided at Mexicali’s four shelters and the four health centers located in the city, as well as at the borderline module, the secretary said.

Trejo said any immigrant with fever will get attention at special centers or General Hospitals in the state.
