The treasurer of a political party was indicted during the weekend for not submitting an election expenditure report during last year’s elections.
Mexico’s Attorney General for Election Crimes, or Fepade in Spanish, said a judge indicted the treasurer of the National Action Party in Baja California.
The agency said the indicted is based in Election Crimes General Law violations.
The treasurer did not provide documents to prove expenditures made by the party during the 2016 election in which the institution won the three main mayorships and the majority in the Assembly.
The agency said the treasurer was interviewed by the National Electoral Institute’s Technical Unit of Auditing, but the official did not comply with requests.
After a thorough investigation authorities determined the reports released by the treasurer did not comply with the necessary requirements set by law.
The agency said no certainty has been brought of appropriate use of public funds.
In a press release, National Action Party Chair José Luis Ovando said the indictment is part of the new auditing model set by law.
The treasurer was indicted for being the party’s legal representative, he said.
Ovando added the treasurer was interviewed on March 28 regarding the issue and to attend the processing.
Authorities must consider the party’s arguments on the case in order to clarify any issues, he said.
His party, Ovando added, has always complied with auditing and reporting.
Proof of that is the fact that every campaign period the party has received the least observations from election authorities, he said.
Homicide suspect arrested
A man who allegedly killed two individuals six years ago in rural Mexicali was arrested by state police officers in Central Mexico, said the Attorney General’s office.
Authorities said Martín “Doe,” no age reported, was arrested Saturday for the murder of Araceli Vazquez Granados and Samuel Rios Nunez on March 11, 2011.
The suspect was driving a Mazda vehicle by a dirt road at Ejido Colima rural town and suddenly chased and ran over the victims who were riding on a quad.
The victims died at the scene due to the injuries presumably caused by the suspect.
The suspect left the scene and tried to abscond at the city of Irapuato at the state of Guanajuato.
The agency said the suspect used another name to avoid his arrest but was identified through his fingertips.
Baja California Ministerial police officers traveled to Irapuato to arrest the suspect and transported him to Mexicali, where he was booked in Mexicali Jail.
Man indicted for robbery
A man who allegedly took part in a September robbery against an eatery was indicted by a state judge, said the Attorney General’s office.
Authorities said Juan Antonio Doe, no age reported, aka “Caco,” was indicted for the robbery reported at a taco business located by Anahuac Boulevard at Fraccionamiento Infonavit Cucapah neighborhood in southern Mexicali.
The agency said the suspect and four other individuals arrived at the scene on a black Jeep Cherokee early on Sept. 4 and entered the site by the rear door.
The suspects brandished firearms against the cooks and demanded money from the business safe.
The suspects then punched and threatened employees at the cash register still seeking for the safe that was never found.
Authorities said the suspects then took employees personal items as well as cash, a computer and a cell phone from the business.
