    Street rehabilitation continues

A Mexicali official said Phase Two of the Alvaro Obregón Street rehabilitation continues.

Public Works Director José Reynoso said the project covers from Morelos Street to Julián Carrillo Street, just across the Autonomous University of Baja California Dean’s office.

The project’s cost is 18 million pesos or $1 million.

The funds come from the Mexican Metropolitan fund.

Reynoso said the project will benefit over 25,000 people who use the street on a daily basis.

    Lawmaker requests hospital accommodations

A state lawmaker asked officials to build special accommodations for patient visitors at Mexicali’s General Hospital.

Assemblyman Luis Moreno, with the Social Encounter Party, said the goal of his proposal is to provide good treatment to patient relatives.

Visitors must wait in a small square located outside the hospital before seeing their relatives.

Moreno asked state officials to build appropriate facilities for visitors.

“It is really inhuman and shameful see the conditions in which visitors are at this place,” Moreno said.

The lawmaker asked the state to install shades, restrooms, chairs, fans and fresh water for visitors can wait during the hot summer temperatures.

Moreno said the actual conditions are in violation of human rights.

The proposal was voted unanimously by assembly members.
