A man who allegedly killed two people in rural Mexicali over a decade ago was arrested in the Mexican state of Jalisco in the Pacific coast, said the Attorney General’s office.’
Authorities said Hugo César Sandoval Jiménez, 38, who also identifies himself as Casimiro Ortega Cervantes, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the April 2004 murder of Manuel Guadalupe Gil Samaniego, 25 and Raúl García Baltazar, 54.
The victims were at a family meeting at Ejido Heriberto Jara rural town when the suspect drove his vehicle at high speed.
The victims asked the suspect to slow down due to the presence of several children.
Authorities said the suspect left and arrived moments later as a passenger of a Ford Crown Victoria, from which one of the victims was called.
After approaching the vehicle the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and shot the victims.
The suspect fled from the scene immediately.
Sandoval Jiménez was found and arrested in the city of Zapopan in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.
The suspect was deported from Jalisco and booked in Mexicali Jail.
Man arrested for murder of woman
A 30-year-old man was arrested Thursday for his alleged involvement in a 2012 murder of a woman, said the Attorney General’s office.
An official with the agency said the suspect was identified as José De Jesús “Doe,” aka “Güerito.”
Special Investigations Coordinator David Lozano said Ministerial police officers apprehended the man while walking by Ninth Street in the unincorporated area of González Ortega, also known as Palaco in eastern Mexicali.
The suspect has been accused of the murder of Liliana Félix Núñez, 25, on Sept. 2, 2012.
The assassination was reported early that day while the victim was walking close to the corner of San Luis Potosí Street and Azteca Street at Colonia Azteca neighborhood.
According to the agency the suspect and other individuals just passed the victim on a Chevrolet Camaro.
For unknown reasons the suspect brandished a pistol and shot the victim on her face.
Lozano said the victim was transported to Mexicali’s General Hospital, where she succumbed to the injuries.
The suspect was booked in Mexicali Jail, the official said.
Man caught after robbery
A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly committing a robbery in a meat shop, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said a 62-year-old man made a report to the police regarding the incident at Carnicería Rodeo at Villa Santa Rosa Avenue and Aciano Street at Colonia San Miguel in western Mexicali.
Police officers arrested Leonardo Noé “Doe,” 23.
The victim told the police the suspect and an accomplice entered the business and brandished a kitchen knife.
The suspect fled on foot with 30 pesos or less than $2 and a box with candies.
The arrested man was transported to the police headquarters.
Men arrested for robbing taxi drivers
Two men were arrested Thursday in separate incidentes for their alleged involvement in a couple of robberies committed against taxi drivers, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
The first arrest occurred after a robbery was reported at 1:50 a.m. against a driver of the Taxi Estrella del Pacífico company at López Mateos Boulevard and Sur Street at Colonia Bellavista, next to downtown.
The arrested man in the case was identified as Ángel “Doe,” 37.
Authorities said the man declined to pay for service.
After arrival, police officers observed the suspect chasing the driver on foot with what seemed to be a knife on his hand.
The suspect was detained and arrested with a scissors blade.
The taxi driver told the police the suspect threatened him by brandishing the blade in demand of his belongings.
The suspect was transported to the police headquarters.
In the other case, police officers arrested Jesús María “Doe,” 27, aka “Chuyito.”
The suspect allegedly robbed the driver of the Taxi Tour company at Fraccionamiento Villas del Campo subdivision.
After arrival, the victim told police officers the suspect brandished a knife just outside the Oxxo store located at the neighborhood.
The suspect took the victim’s cell phone.
The taxi driver chased the suspect until his detention.
Police officers could not seize the weapon or the cell phone.
The suspect was transported to the police headquarters.
