    Alleged matricide apprehended

    A man who allegedly killed his mother during a residential fire was arrested Tuesday by Ministerial police officers, said the Attorney General’s office.

    Authorities identified the suspect as Francisco Alejandro “Doe,” aka “Negro,” no age reported.

    According to the agency the suspect killed his mother the night of April 7 at a residence located by Astronautas Avenue at Colonia San Carlos neighborhood.

    Authorities said after an argument the suspect shut down the home door and ignited the wooden doors.

    Neighbors attempted to rescue the victim but to no avail.

    The woman, who was identified as Josefina Jimenez Mercado was found deceased inside one of the bedrooms.

    The victim died due to the smoke intoxication, the agency said.

    The suspect was booked in Mexicali Jail.

    Woman involved in accident dies

    A 36-year-old woman died Monday two days after a vehicle accident reported in eastern Mexicali, according to media reports.

    The victim was identified by authorities as Susana Vega Valladolid, whom along with her husband sold fruits and vegetables at flea markets as a way of life.

    Mexicali police reported Saturday morning that the victim was driving a white Toyota Echo when the suspect impacted her crushing the vehicle in two.

    The suspect driver was identified as U.S. resident Robert Alexander “Doe,” who was driving a green and black Ford Mustang.

    The suspect apparently was driving under the influence, authorities said.

    After the accident, Vega and her 3-year-old daughter, identified as Nirvana Karime, were transported to Mexicali’s General Hospital.

    Both were reported in serious conditions.

    The suspect driver will be accused of vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence, an Attorney General’s office representative told reporters.

    Insecurity perception increases

    The perception of insecurity among Mexicali residents increased to 83.3 percent in three months, according to a report released by a Mexican agency.

    The National Institute of Statistics and Geography, known in Spanish as INEGI, released the results of its National Poll on Urban Public Safety for June 2017.

    In the March poll 64.7 percent of Mexicali residents felt insecure in their own city.

    The capital city of Baja California was just below than other 13 metropolitan areas, including Mexico City.

    According to the poll 49.5 percent of Mexicali residents were involved in issues with family members, neighbors, friends, co-workers, police officers and others.

    In this item the city fell from second to tenth place in three months by descending from the 60.5 percent reported on March.

    The agency asked Mexican residents regarding how effective their authorities are in order to address the public safety issue.

    Barely one in ten residents expressed their trust in authorities, leaving the city in fourth place nationwide just behind Mexico City, Ecatepec in the state of Mexico and Villahermosa, Tabasco.

    Man sentenced to 19 years of prison for homicide of wife

    An individual was sentenced to spend 19.5 years in prison after being convicted for organizing his wife's murder, said the Attorney General’s office.

    The individual was identified as Gilberto “Doe,” who was accused of the assassination of Cecilia Gomez Villa, a convenience store employee who was shot to death over five years ago.

    Authorities said the murder was reported April 6, 2012 at an Oxxo store located at San Felipe Highway and Limoneros Street at colonia Granjas Santa Cecilia in southern Mexicali.

    The suspect of killing the victim was Dayra Judith “Doe,” who attempted a robbery at the store and shot the employee to death for no apparent reason.

    According to the agency Gilberto arrived at the scene and convinced the female suspect to kill the victim given Gomez Villa presumably had money with her.

    The convicted man gave his accomplice a firearm, a jacket and a camouflaged pair of slacks military-like, authorities said based on the investigation.

    After the murder the suspects threw the gun onto a canal.

    Dayra Judith was arrested the day after the murder and her accomplice fled to the city of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico where he was eventually arrested.

    The female suspect told the police who her accomplice was, authorities said.

    Dayra Judith was sentenced July 24, 2014 to 13 years and 10 months of prison for homicide and robbery.

    LA woman dies in traffic accident

    A LA woman died Friday night and a man held serious injuries during an accident reported in rural Mexicali, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

    Authorities said the accident was reported at 9 p.m. at State Highway 2.

    The fatal victim was identified as Maricela Gómez, 40, of Los Angeles.

    The woman was driving a black 2010 Toyota Camry with California plates.

    Gómez apparently impacted a gray 1999 Dodge Ram pickup with Arizona plates driven by Víctor Manuel Guillén, 33.

    The man had both legs broken and was transported to the Clinic 30 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security in Mexicali.

    No additional details were reported by the police.

    Alleged kidnapper apprehended

    State Ministerial police officers arrested a man who allegedly took part in the kidnapping of a minor, said the Attorney General’s office.

    Authorities said the suspect was identified as Humberto Alejandro “Doe.”

    The suspect presumably took part in the kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy reported on May 29.

    The incident was reported at Fraccionamiento Lagos del Sol neighborhood in southern Mexicali, authorities said.

    According to the agency the suspect and other individuals kidnapped the minor along with his father and an acquaintance.

    The adults were released eventually.

    The minor was found at Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard and Yugoslavia Street.

    The agency said in a press release another suspect has been already indicted.
