A San Pedro, Calif. man whom the U.S. Marshals were looking for was arrested Monday by state police officers, said International Liaison of the state Preventive police department Rodolfo Luna.
The official said Richard Gutiérrez, 27, was apprehended after U.S. authorities reported the whereabouts of the suspect to their Mexican counterparts.
The suspect had an active arrest warrant since May for gun possession, Luna said.
The U.S. Marshals notified the agency that the suspect arrived recently to Calexico and then crossed the international border.
State police officers observed the suspect at Sur Street at Colonia Pasadina neighborhood, southwest of the Downtown Port of Entry.
The man was identified thanks to the tattoos he had on his face and neck.
Police officers confirmed the suspect’s identification through the emergency dispatching center.
Gutiérrez was transported to the National Immigration Institute for his deportation.
