Assistant Attorney General in Mexicali Fernando Ramírez said Jorge Adrián was ordered by the judge to remain in Mexicali Jail while his criminal processing moves forward.
Authorities said the suspect committed a robbery against a fruit and vegetable distributing company at Santiago Vidaurri Avenue at Colonia Solidaridad Social neighborhood.
Ramírez said the suspect and an accomplice arrived on scene and threatened employees with a firearm and demanded money.

Legislative candidates file papers
Over a dozen National Action Party –or PAN in Spanish- members filed their candidacy papers to become the nominees for assembly seats in the upcoming midterm election.
PAN State Chair José Luis Ovando introduced the 17 members who are seeking nomination in 10 legislative districts.
The party chair said a caucus is scheduled for March 20, when PAN members will vote for their candidates, being the only political organization here that has held this type of elections.
“We are going to win the election. We are going to show why we are the best party, the one that has the best proposals, the one on the side of residents, the one that fights for them and their interests; this is the message we are sending the rest of the candidates on this campaign,” Ovando said. “The PAN is strong and united for the upcoming election of 2016.”
Six PAN members from Mexicali filed their documentation in order to run in three legislative districts.
Among those who turned papers are former Congressman Andrés De La Rosa in District V, as well as former City Clerk José Félix Arango and former Secretary of Public Safety Manuel Díaz Lerma in District IV.
Díaz Lerma became internationally known after escaping from a criminal gun attack on April 2006, when unidentified suspects shot hundreds of times the then-secretary’s convoy close to the East Port of Entry.
The candidate registration ended Wednesday, but no additional candidate information was reported as of press time.
The party’s state council decided recently to nominate directly candidates in seven legislative races, but it will depend on an appeal filed against a resolution by the National Electoral Institute regarding an affirmative action bill approved by the Assembly that mandates at least half the candidacies must be assigned to women.
