A man who allegedly shot a Riverside County Sheriff deputy last week was arrested Thursday afternoon in Mexicali, said the Baja California Attorney General’s office.
The agency said in a press release Gildardo Dávila, 27, was arrested at Colonia Industrial in Mexicali.
The individual allegedly shot a sheriff deputy May 25 while evading his arrest on foot.
A police officer attempted to stop Dávila at 7:45 p.m. at Harrison Street and Las Flores Avenue in Coachella for a traffic stop.
The driver attempted to flee and was found blocks ahead.
The suspect attempted again to flee on foot.
While being chased the suspect shot the sheriff five times, causing five injuries to the cop in the hands and legs.
The injuries were minor, according to Baja California authorities.
The deputy was air lifted to an area hospital.
Police officers found inside Dávila’s vehicle drugs, three R-15 rifles and magazines.
Riverside County authorities thought the suspect might have fled to Mexicali to abscond at relatives’ homes.
Mexicali Ministerial police officers found and arrested the suspect at Colonia Industrial.
The Attorney General’s office said the suspect had a criminal background for trespassing, gang-related activities and drug trafficking.
Dávila was deported to the United States, authorities said.
