Former Mexicali Fire Chief René Rosado was appointed by Mexicali Mayor Jaime Díaz as the new Emergency Management Coordinator.
The official took the oath Wednesday morning during a special ceremony led by City Clerk Francisco Iribe.
Rosado, who has been fire chief and emergency management coordinator, succeeds César Flores, who according to media reports was fired amid budget constraints and new government accounting regulations.
The city clerk said Rosado’s appointment goes along reengineering policies in the city’s strategic areas that authorities seek to strengthen with staff.
Rosado was trained in Upper Fire Management in 1977 and has taken several classes in France, United States, and Spain.
He has also studies in Fire Science and hazardous chemicals emergency management, and has trained at the national and international level.
Man caught with drugs
A 39-year-old man was arrested Tuesday by state police officers in possession of 12.3 pounds of ice methamphetamine, said the Secretary of Public Safety.
Authorities said Rafael “Doe” was arrested at Plateros Street at Colonia Industrial neighborhood, east of the Civic Center, while driving a 1998 Honda CR-V, after receiving a report from a resident.
State Preventive police officers approached the driver who showed nervous behavior.
Police agents inspected the vehicle and found several containers with the drug in the back seat.
The value of the drug was estimated at 2.79 million pesos or US $164,117.
The suspect and the drugs were turned to federal authorities.
Trio arrested during residential burglary
Three men were arrested Tuesday night in a southern Mexicali residence in possession of several items that were being stolen, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 10:50 p.m. police officers arrested Erikc “Doe,”, 21; Sergio “Doe,” 25; and José “Doe,” 30, at a residence located at 807 Laguna Logos Avenue at Fraccionamiento Lagos del Sol neighborhood.
Police agents observed the suspect while taking an air conditioning unit and a microwave oven in a white 2010 Dodge Ram pickup with Sonora plates.
One of the suspects told police officers that he was the owner of the house.
However, police agents determined a forced entry into the residence and arrested the suspects.
Police officers found in the pickup a mattress, a bed, several wooden tables, and clothes.
The suspects were arrested and transported to the police headquarters.
Man arrested for dismantling vehicle
A 38-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning while dismantling a vehicle reported stolen, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 10:30 a.m. police officers arrested Gerardo “Doe” at Corregidora Sur Street and De los Planetas Street at Valle del Álamo neighborhood.
The suspect was attempting to steal a part of a 1998 black Honda Accord with California plates.
Police officers determined through the emergency center that the vehicle was reported stolen.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the police headquarters.
Burglary reported at alarm business
Two men were arrested early Wednesday after police officers caught them stealing several items from a car alarm business, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 3:50 a.m. Javier “Doe,” 29, and Erick “Doe,” 19, were apprehended at Yiyo’s at Anáhuac Boulevard and Central Axis at Fracionamiento Jardines del Lago subdivision.
Police officers found the suspect who attempted to flee after observing the agents.
The suspects were in possession of a back pack containing an amplifier, a car stereo and a car speaker.
The men were transported to the police headquarters.
