    Lawmakers and education workers meet

A group of lawmakers met Wednesday with representatives of the State Education Workers Union, or SETE in Spanish, in order to address the retirement benefits issue.

The Legislative Political Coordinating Board Chairman Mario Osuna said the parties agreed to install a working group in order to solve the pension problem addressed by the state union.

The parties also met last week after teachers protested in demand of retirement benefit payment.

SETE member Agustín Morales and around 20 more workers affiliated with the bargaining unit told lawmakers the state has not paid retirement benefits to close to 3,000 eligible teachers.

The working group is scheduled for confirmation Friday, when a meeting is held with state cabinet members.

The lawmaker asked recently for a detailed report regarding the credit line that is equal to $164.7 million.
