    Men arrested for robbery

    Two men were arrested Thursday evening after allegedly committing an armed robbery in a beauty salon in eastern Mexicali, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

    Authorities said at 4 p.m. a robbery was reported at Estética Perla at Colonia Alamitos, southwest of the East Port of Entry.

    Police officers arrested José “Doe,” 31 and Carlos “Doe,” 27 in connection to the incident.

    Authorities said employees and customers told police agents that the suspects arrived and brandished a black pistol.

    After taking two purses with them the suspects fled on a black 1997 Chevrolet Camaro with California plates.

    A customer and police agents chased the suspects, who crashed at Gómez Morín Boulevard.

    The suspects attempted to flee on foot but were arrested by police officers, authorities said.

    The men were transported to the police headquarters.

     

    Men indicted for robbery

    Two men were indicted for the June 27 robbery committed in a market, said the Attorney General’s office.

    Authorities said a judge indicted Alexis Jovan “Doe” and Rodrigo “Doe”, and gave detectives two months to close thee investigation.

    The judge also accepted the suspects must remain in jail during the trial.

    Authorities said the suspects allegedly arrived at a Ciudad Victoria rural town market and Alexis brandished a firearm to threaten two employees and rob around 17,000 pesos or $1,000.

    Alexis then presumably left scene on foot and got on board of a motorcycle driven by his accomplice.

    The suspects were found and arrested blocks away by police officers who seized the gun and the cash.

    The motorcycle was previously reported stolen, authorities said.

    The Attorney General’s office pressed charged for the market robbery and for being on possession of a vehicle reported stolen, authorities said.

     

    Open meeting bill introduced

    State Assembly members approved a bill that, if enacted, would open municipal and legislative meetings.

    Assemblyman Fausto Gallardo, a Tijuana member of Mexico’s Green Party, introduced Assembly Bill 90 that was previously approved by the Government, Legislation and Constitutional Commission.

    The proposal would open sessions at the legislative and municipal levels in order to receive input from residents regarding relevant issues.

    The bill amends the Municipal Regime Law and the Organic Legislative Branch Law.

    The State Assembly will schedule one open meeting per month, he said.

    Residents will be able to request their participation during the meeting that has to be approved by the Political Coordinating Board.

    The Assembly Speaker will then schedule citizens’ participation during the meeting.

    “Citizens’ participation is a constitutional right that Baja California residents have and must impact decision making that affect their economic, political, cultural and social environment,” he said. “It must be considered as a mechanism of social control that strengthens trust links between the community and its institutions.”
