Dozens of Mexicali Firefighters
held Tuesday a march from a station to City Hall to demand the payment of a
month-long due bonus, as well as the purchase of equipment.
The firefighters held banners and
marched with their fire engines for several blocks through Civic Center
streets.
The Firefighters demand the
purchase of equipment necessary to protect the community like axes, hoses and
uniforms.
City Executive Officer Karla
Castillo arrived in the Vicente Guerrero Park Station to prevent firefighters
from holding the march. The petition fell into deaf ears as Firefighters had
demanded city support for months.
Castillo lamented the way
firefighters expressed their discomfort.
The authorities shut down City
Hall before firefighters arrived in.
Assemblyman and Public Employee
Union Secretary General Manuel Guerrero said City officials are making
unilateral decisions and cancelled meetings with firefighters.
