    Judge convicts two for 2019 kidnapping

    Two men were sentenced to spend 53 years in state prison for a 2019 kidnapping in the Fraccionamiento Residencias subdivision

    Two men were sentenced to spend 53 years in prison for the 2019 kidnapping and robbery of a Mexicali resident.

    The convicted men are Iván Moreno López and Kevin José García Caunes, the latter also known as Carlos Eloy Celada Pantoja.

    The state Attorney General’s office said in the hearings García Caunes arrived on June 25, 2019, at the victim’s home in order to sell a Yamaha motorcycle.

    However, the suspect told the victim he was unable to bring the motorcycle due to an injury.

    The two traveled to a Fraccionamiento Residencias area home where the suspects assaulted the victim and kept him against his will.

    Authorities said the victim was robbed of a wallet and a smartphone.

    The suspects then called the victim’s relatives to demand a cash payment of 150,000 pesos or now over $7,500 USD.

    A victim’s sibling arrived at the scene and asked his brother to be released. As the suspects declined to release the victim, the victim’s brother called the police.

    Police agents arrested the suspects and released the victim.

    Fatal shooting reported

    A 42-year-old man was shot to death Thursday morning in a rural town, according to media reports.

    The incident was reported at 7:14 a.m. at the Ejido Lázaro Cárdenas Norte rural town, La Voz newspaper said.

    A reporting party told the police several shots were heard from behind a gas station.

    Upon arrival, police agents found the victim with several shotgun wounds.

    The police found at the scene 13 bullet casings of two different calibers — 9 mm and 40 mm.

    The victim was identified as Joel.

    Victim robbed at home

    A man was robbed of a significant amount of cash just outside his Fraccionamiento Calafia subdivision home Tuesday morning.

    According to media reports, the incident was notified to the police at 10:17 a.m.

    The victim, who was identified as Ezequiel, 52, told the police the robbery occurred after descending his company vehicle to open the home’s door.

    Two individuals arrived at the scene in a blue Toyota Corolla.

    One of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded a bag with cash.

    The second suspect attempted to take the victim’s bag. However, the victim resisted the robbery and the bag got opened — leaving the cash on the street.

    Also, the first suspect dropped the gun and the victim realized it was an imitation firearm.

    The suspects fled and left at the scene about a hundred bills totaling 35,000 pesos or about $1,842 USD in Mexican currency.

    Suspects were able to take 415,000 pesos or around $21,842 USD.

    The authorities believe a third individual who was driving the vehicle participated in the robbery.

    Man arrested for robbery, sexual abuse

    A man who allegedly robbed a family and inappropriately touched one of the victims a couple weeks ago was arrested by state police officers.

    The state Attorney General’s office said Ángel Fabián, no age reported, was apprehended for the Nov. 25 robbery reported in a Fraccionamiento Villa Colonial residence.

    According to the authorities the suspect and three other individuals allegedly arrived at 4 a.m. at the home.

    The victim was sleeping in her bedroom when one of the suspects presumably entered and brandished a firearm.

    During the robbery the suspect allegedly inappropriately touched the victim, the agency said.

    The agency said three individuals entered the home’s garage where the victim’s husband and another relative were at and brandished firearms to threaten them.

    According to the authorities the pair was also physically assaulted several times.

    The suspects took several electronic devices including a television set, a video game console, an iPhone 13, an Apple Watch, jewelry, tools, $700 and 2,000 pesos.

    All the items were transported in the victim’s blue Jeep Patriot.

    State police officers were able to find and arrest the suspect on Saturday.

    Judge indicts suspect for sexual abuse of minor

    A man who was accused of sexual abuse of a teenager was indicted by a state judge.

    The state Attorney General’s office said César, no age reported, was indicted for the Oct. 3 case recorded in the Fraccionamiento Hacienda de los Portales area.

    The judge decided to keep the suspect in prison during trial and gave prosecutors two months to close the investigation.

    According to the authorities the first time the sexual abuse case occurred in Oct. 3 when the suspect was left alone with the victim.

    The suspect allegedly forced the victim into a bedroom where she was presumably touched inappropriately.

    By the next day, the suspect allegedly forced the victim into a bedroom once again to repeat the violation.

    The suspect was accused once the victim’s family was notified about the crime.

    Sonoran border shielded, Governor says

    Baja California authorities announced that the Sonoran border will get shielded after an armed assault left several individuals dead.

    Governor Marina Ávila said Baja California remains coordinated with federal and Sonoran law enforcement agencies.

    The governor said no more incidents have been reported.

    During a shooting recorded in the Luis B. Sanchez rural town of the municipality of San Luis Rio Colorado eight individuals died Saturday.

    The town is next to the Colonias Nuevas rural town of the municipality of Mexicali.

    Although Gov. Avila said the incident did not begin in Baja California, the Sonora State Department of Public Safety said the shooting started in Baja California.

    The governor highlighted the fact that no Baja Californian was reported dead.

    State authorities announced the eventual opening of a couple of National Guard offices in rural Mexicali.

    Baja California Secretary of Public Safety Gilberto Landeros said state and federal police officers were deployed to rural towns.

    Months ago, the US Department of State issued an updated warning to American citizens regarding violence in rural Mexicali.

    Sonoran authorities said along with Mexican law enforcement officers and military personnel five search warrants were executed after the fatal shooting.

    The authorities seized 49 vehicles, an undisclosed amount of firearms, and detained four individuals.

    Police arrests suspect involved in several robberies

    A man who was allegedly involved in 13 robberies of convenience stores was arrested by Mexicali Police.

    According to the reports, police agents nabbed Francisco “N,” 43, aka “Cantinflas.”

    The suspect was apprehended in the Pórticos del Valle area by the San Felipe Highway.

    According to the police, officers observed an individual who was allegedly committing a misdemeanor.

    Police officers stopped the suspect.

    The suspect was found in alleged possession of a knife.

    Police officers transported the suspect to the police headquarters and found the individual was apparently involved in 13 robberies.

    The incidents were reported to the authorities in October and November.

    The suspect was turned to the Attorney General’s office.

    Several rescued from desert area

    Five individuals were rescued by state Civil Protection staff, Mexicali firefighters and members of the volunteer rescue group Rescate Aguiluchos.

    The state Office of Civil Protection said in a statement two individuals were originally reported missing early Monday in the Laguna Salada area west of Mexicali.

    On Monday morning the authorities found a man and a woman. The other three that were searching for the missing couple were eventually located.

    Authorities said the vehicle got stuck in the sand.

    The five individuals were transported back to Mexicali.

    Authorities asked residents to avoid getting into the Laguna Salada due to its soil conditions and lack of cell phone towers.

    Also, the agency asked that in case of traveling to the area vehicles must work under good conditions, while travelers must bring enough food and water.

    At the same time, visitors must report their trip to family members and an expected time of return.

    The agency said lower temperatures are expected in the area, so the authorities do not recommend camping in the Laguna Salada zone.

    State office robbed at gunpoint

    At least two individuals allegedly robbed a state office at gunpoint over the weekend, according to media reports.

    La Crónica newspaper reported that the suspects robbed 400,000 pesos or over $20,000 USD in Mexican currency.

    The incident took place in the State’s Tax Collector’s office located in the parking lot of the Mexicali Fairgrounds.

    The office was opened to register illegal vehicles, the newspaper said.

    Victims told the police the suspects arrived at the scene and brandished firearms.

    Suspects robbed the cash and employees’ smartphones.

    Then, the suspects fled on a motorcycle.

    The police were unable to find the suspects.

    Presumed criminal gang leader apprehended again

    After a judge released a man who allegedly shot at police agents a couple weeks ago state police officers apprehended the suspect under charges of attempted homicide.

    The state Attorney General’s office said Christian Alexis “N,” aka “El Plaga,” was arrested after being released by a Mexican judge for gun crimes.

    The suspect, who is also known as Eduardo René, was cruising on Nov. 19 along with Benito “N,”, aka “El Tío,” by the Colonia Alamitos area on a Jeep Rubicon.

    Originally, the police said while agents were chasing the suspects the vehicle got stuck in a ditch.

    Moments before, the suspects allegedly shot at the police officers.

    Once leaving the vehicle, “El Plaga” allegedly asked Benito to shoot at the police officers.

    Police agents responded and killed Benito at the scene.

    Eventually, the police arrested El Plaga under alleged possession of firearms.

    The suspect, of Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, is thought to lead a criminal gang named “Los Rusos.”
