Three men were shot to death early Sunday in a Colonia La Luna area, according to police reports.
The incident was first reported at 2:47 a.m. by San Felipe Rico Avenue.
A 22-year-old reporting party told the police three individuals were shot at the scene.
Upon arrival, the police found the three men dead.
The reporting party told authorities she heard the shots while sleeping.
Police agents found 20 bullet casings at the scene.
The police said six individuals with the faces covered were involved in the murder.
American citizen rescued
An American citizen was rescued in the Laguna Salada area after his vehicle for stuck in the sand without gas.
Rural Mexicali firefighters along with rescue staff with the Aguiluchos team found the US national behind El Mayor Hill by the area known as El Coyote.
The victim was identified as Bruce Baxter, 67, who was driving a Razor vehicle.
Rescue staff took the vehicle off the sand and paramedics treated the lone driver.
According to the authorities the driver said he was riding by the Baja Mil road helped by a GPS device.
However, the driver got lost and the vehicle got stuck.
The driver was able to dial 9-1-1 for help.
Human body parts found
Mexicali Police found presumed human remains Sunday afternoon in an empty lot by Lopez Mateos Boulevard.
The incident was reported at 3:10 p.m. close to the intersection of Anáhuac Boulevard and Lopez Mateos Boulevard next to an auto parts store.
Mexicali Police officers and state agents arrived at the scene while State Coroner’s office personnel took custody of the remains.
Driver seriously injured in traffic accident
A man who was driving the wrong way early Sunday got seriously injured in downtown Mexicali.
The police said the incident was first reported at 1:14 a.m. just across Hotel del Norte in the intersection of Madero Avenue and López Mateos Boulevard.
According to the report Victor Jesus “N,” 29, was driving westbound on Madero Avenue, a red 2015 Nissan March.
The driver impacted a gray 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, driven by Arturo “N,” 32.
After the impact the SUV ended on the curb next to a convenience store.
Victor Jesús was treated at the scene and transported under police custody to the General Hospital.
Man involved in triple homicide convicted
A man was sentenced by a state judge to 43 years in prison for a triple homicide.
According to the state Attorney General’s office, the judge also ruled Guadalupe “N” must pay close to 1.5 million pesos – or $75,000 USD – in damage repair to victims.
Guadalupe took part in a Feb. 2017 incident in the Colonia Carranza rural town where three individuals were killed, two others injured and a home was burned down, authorities said.
Guadalupe was driving a Honda Accord with California license plates the day of the incident. The driver observed a Ramiro “N” in a tire shop. Guadalupe shot the victim to death.
Guadalupe then drove to a ranch where he shot Raúl “N” to death. Eventually, Guadalupe also shot another man in the face via drive-by shooting.
The convicted man also robbed an employee of a gas station about $300 USD at gunpoint. Moments later, Guadalupe shot two drivers by the San Felipe Highway. Finally, Guadalupe shot Sergio “N” to death in the Colonia Satélite area.
The man was arrested after a police pursuit.
Business owner shot to death
The owner of a small Fraccionamiento Villas del Campo area store was shot to death Monday.
Authorities said the victim was identified as José Luis “N,” 63.
The victim was found on the street just in front of the store.
According to the authorities, the incident was first reported to the police at 9:30 a.m.
Reports say the victim confronted at least one suspect who tried to rob him.
Witnesses told the police the suspect was dressed on a gray sweatshirt, blue denim jeans, black cap and red face mask.
The suspect fled on a bicycle.
According to the reports, the suspect spends part of the day riding the bicycle.
Business leader demands strategies against crime
A business organization leader demanded state and city authorities strategies to address crime after the recent violent incidents occurred in Mexicali.
Entrepreneurial Confederation of Mexicali President Octavio Sandoval told La Voz newspaper high crime rates have been reported all over the year.
However, crimes have been increasing recently.
“We have proposed to revise the strategy that has produced no results,” Sandoval told the newspaper. “Every single day crimes are more serious.”
The confederation president said the authorities cannot deny the criminal wave by showing “happy figures.”
National Cargo Transportation Chamber President in Mexicali Luciano Jiménez told the newspaper perception of insecurity in the city has been increasing in Mexicali.
A recent report released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography said this perception slightly decreased in the last quarter.
Jiménez said crime is most significant in highways where law enforcement is not seen patrolling the areas where robberies and assaults of drivers have been reported.
Jiménez admitted that these crimes are not at high levels reported in other states.
Bodies found with signs of foul play
Two men were found dead Wednesday in the Colonia Carranza area with signs of foul play.
The bodies were found inside a wastewater canal with firearm injuries.
Initially, the authorities received a report of a single corpse.
Eventually, the police found a second body about 20 yards ahead.
The victims had their hands espoused and one of the bodies was wrapped in a white blanket.
State police officers arrived at the scene and the state Coroner’s office took custody of the bodies.
Drug tunnel confirmed
The Mexican Attorney General’s office confirmed the finding of a drug tunnel inside a Christian Church that was under construction in the Colonia Fronteriza area.
Agents with the Federal Ministerial Police found at the scene two excavators and other utensils to operate the machinery, as well as two magazines, nine cartridges and a vehicle.
Investigators and detectives are searching for evidence at the scene that includes architecture studies.
According to the agency the church was built in order to hide the drug tunnel.
The state Department of Public Safety said last week the finding of a magazine after receiving an anonymous tip led to the discovery of the tunnel.
State police officers requested help from the Mexican Department of National Defense to protect the site.
Last year another tunnel that ended at the Gran Plaza Outlets was found close to the area. Several construction employees were found at the scene forced to build the tunnel.
