    Authorities address false emergency calls

State and military officials held Tuesday a meeting in order to address the impact in public safety of false emergency calls.

These type of calls have increased in recent months, which has impacted services rendered to residents.

Those calls are considered terrorist acts under the state Penal Code. Violators face up to three years in prison if convicted.

Authorities asked residents to avoid making false emergency calls at the 9-1-1 system that might increase response time in real situations.

State Secretary of Public Health Daniel de la Rosa asked authorities to implement measures to improve the time of response to attend emergencies.

    Party leader criticizes president

The Mexicali chair of a political party said the Mexican president’s economic policies have impacted residents, especially those living along the border.

National Action Party local leader Javier Gutiérrez said President Enrique Peña Nieto’s economic policies have been inappropriate.

Gutiérrez said those measures have driven the country towards the reduction of international reserves and the increase of poverty levels and public debt.

If the country stays in such path Mexico’s middle-class will be under threat of extinction and condemned to be a country of poor people, he said.

He underlined the fact that while international oil prices and the dollar rate exchange have declined in recent months Mexico’s gas prices have been decreased just a few cents per gallon, which Gutiérrez considered a joke to Mexicans.

Baja California and other states in the northern border have been impacted more as gas prices are lower in the United States, which has taken consumers to shop gasoline and other items on the other side of the border.

    Three arrested for carjacking

Three individuals were arrested Tuesday after allegedly committing a carjacking, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

The police identified the suspects as Hugo “Doe,” 33, Alan Gabriel “Doe,” 22, and Cristian Alexis “Doe,” 22.

Authorities said the case was reported at the emergency dispatching center by a female victim of 22 years of age.

The victim told police one of the suspects brandished a firearm to take her green 2002 Ford Escort LX while on a park.

Police officers found the suspect vehicle by Xochitlán Avenue and Rosa Del Desierto Street at Fraccionamiento Valle del Pedregal neighborhood.

After a brief chase police agents stopped the individuals in possession of an imitation Made in China firearm.

The suspects were transported to the police headquarters.

    Man indicted for vehicle robbery

An individual was indicted Tuesday by a state judge for his alleged connection to a robbery case, said the Attorney General’s office.

Authorities said the suspect was identified as Arturo “Doe,” 44.

The suspect presumably was found by a 82-year-old woman inside her Maestros Federales subdivision residence.

Authorities said the suspect allegedly pushed the victim to her bed and was tied by the hands after attempting to reporte the crime by phone.

The suspect fled on the victim’s gray 2013 Jeep Compass.

The suspect also took the victims electronic devices and documents.

Mexicali police officers found and arrested the suspect after the victim called 9-1-1 to report the incident.

The judge gave detectives two months to close the investigation, authorities said.
