A state official said 73 workers have filed claims against their employers for lack of payment of their Christmas bonuses, known in Spanish as Aguinaldo.
Secretary of Labor Juana Pérez said staff from the State Prosecutorial Work Defense agency have received 41 complaints from workers in Ensenada, 25 from Tijuana and seven from Mexicali.
The secretary said workers were advised regarding the amount they were entitled to get paid.
However, eight employers were cited for not meeting the Dec. 20 deadline to pay at least half of the bonus, she said.
Pérez said the agency has attorneys who can provide free-of-cost insight for workers who are unaware of this legal benefit.
