Alleged Sinaloa Cartel member arrested
A man who had ties with the Sinaloa Cartel to sell drugs in Mexicali was arrested Wednesday by state police officers, said the State Secretary of Public Safety.
Authorities identified the suspect as Ignacio Villalba Muñoz, 52.
According to authorities, police agents arrested during the last two months several suspects who worked for Villalba Muñoz in the sale and exportation of drugs as well as in possession of firearms.
During these months, detectives made an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect at Colonia Carbajal, where at least another man linked to the criminal band.
Villalba Muñoz was observed at 16 de Septiembre Street on a 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup.
After noticing the police officers presence, the suspect fled but was stopped later.
Villalba Muñoz had inside the truck 1.4 kilograms –or three pounds- of marijuana, whose price in the market is 54,000 pesos or US $3,294.11.
Authorities said the suspect allegedly said he worked independently but was supplied with drugs by the Sinaloa Cartel.
The agency said the suspect was turned to the appropriate authorities to begin his processing.
