A senior citizen was found dead Saturday morning by Laguna Salada west of Mexicali.
The body of Luis Sedano Aguilar, 69, was located by rescue personnel among some rocks at 8 a.m.
The victim’s relatives asked authorities Monday help to find the elderly.
Mexicali, Tijuana, Ensenada and Tecate rescue staff launched an operation to locate the man.
Sedano Aguilar entered the zone on his bicycle.
The victim was seen Thursday at Rancho La Ponderosa and continued his way at 11 am towards Sierra de Juarez, said state Emergency Management director Antonio Rosquillas.
Fatal accident leaves two dead
Two people died and seven injured were reported Sunday morning after a two vehicle accident at the San Felipe highway.
The accident was reported at 9:30 am at the emergency center.
The incident involved a blue 1998 Honda Acura and a white 2017 Nissan March.
The accident occurred at the highway’s 32.9 mile mark.
The deceased victims were the drivers of the vehicles, authorities said.
For an unknown reason the driver of the Honda, who was driving in excess of speed, allowed the vehicle to invade the opposing lane and impacted the Nissan.
The vehicles crashed with the drivers applying no brakes.
One of the fatal victims was identified as Alfredo Lopez Soto, 46.
The driver was accompanied by his family.
The injured passengers were identified as Nancy Margarita Lara, 37, Cassandra Lara, 37, Karla Daniela Lopez Lara, 14 and Eduardo Alfredo López Lara, 10.
The other driver was not identified immediately.
The Honda injured passengers were identified as Raul Galtan López, 25, Luis Alberto Ayala, 22 and Laura Karina Galindo, 20.
State reports on cotton harvested acres
The state of Baja California was third last year in harvested acres of cotton, an official said.
Complimentary Guarantee and Bridge Credit Fund Director Carlos Enrique Silva Robles said the state reported last year 27,000 harvested acres of cotton.
The agency has approved over $1 million in credit lines to 592 producers in the last years, Silva Robles said.
The fund director said companies can access low credit lines that grow with time and depending on the user's credit repay.
Lawmaker announces water hearings
A state lawmaker announced a series of statewide hearings to address water issues.
Assemblyman Marco Corona, with the Institutional Revolutionary Party, said the hearings seek to analyze the status of water in Baja California.
The hearings will include participation of residents, experts, public officials and stakeholders.
Corona, who chairs the Energy and Water Resources Commission, said the Mexicali hearing has been scheduled for June 27 at 11 a.m. at Universidad Xochicalco in eastern Mexicali and just south of the East Port of Entry.
“We are making every effort to hold these hearings in a transparent manner by involving water experts who can help us know the status we are living in the state,” Corona said. “Through residents we will have the opportunity to have a single, unique document that can become the state new Water Law.”
The list of speakers invited to the hearings include Dr. Alfonso Cortez of the Northern Border College, Dr. Jesus Roman Calleros with the Agricultural Science Institute of the Autonomous University of Baja California, Dr. Helena Caeri Baca Leon, national coordinator of Water for All Movement, biologist and environmental consultant Sergio Javier Mata Ugalde and Dr. Elena Burns, coordinator for Sustainability f the Metropolitan University.
Corona said the list of authorities include representatives from the State Water Commission, the National Water Commission and the International Water and Boundaries Commission.
The lawmaker said some of the topics to be addressed during the hearings include climate change, sustainable development, water reuse and regulations.
