A state official said vehicle owners can begin filing registration renewals Monday with a 12 percent discount.
Secretary of Planning and Finances Antonio Valladolid said the discount decreases to 8.5 percent in February and to 5 percent during March.
However, senior citizens and retired employees can get the benefit of a 50 percent discount, he said.
Valladolid added that automobile owners of vehicles whose plates were obtained in 2013 and before would have to renew their plates starting April.
The plate renewal was set by a bill approved by lawmakers and signed by the Governor on September to comply with Mexican law.
Vehicle owners must pay 1,233 pesos of $61.65 for their new plates.
Senior citizens and retired workers also get a 50 percent discount for plate renewal, he said.
Vehicle owners can dial the free hotline 01 800 027-3999 for information regarding their vehicle status.
