    Rickettsiosis fatalities reported

A state official said three residents have died in 2017 due to the spotted Rocky Mountain fever.

Secretary of Health Guillermo Trejo said the fatalities mean a decrease compared to last year, when as of May six people were reported dead due to the illness.

In 2016, a total of 23 residents died of Rickettsiosis, he said.

The secretary asked residents to keep implementing preventive measures to avoid falling sick.

Trejo added that as temperatures rise the possibility of getting sick increases due to the proliferation of ticks.

Residents must get rid of old furniture, fumigate homes on a constant basis, keep pets outdoors, make sure they are tick-free and especially avoid sleeping in the same bed.

The secretary asked residents to go to the doctor as soon as symptoms like fever, headache or muscle pain appear.

    State manufacturing underlined in report

Baja California’s manufacturing sector reported on February the second largest amount of workers in Mexico, according to a report released by the Mexican Institute of Geography and Statistics, or INEGI in Spanish.

The agency said that during the second month of the year employment in the sector increased 7.7 percent compared to Feb. 2016.

Between the months of February of 2016 and 2017 the state reported 22,142 new manufacturing jobs. Just in February this year the sector reported 6,472 new jobs.

According to the report the state has six new companies opened in the same period.

Baja California accumulates 18 percent of manufacturing companies in Mexico, said the agency.

While production value increased 53 percent —the largest increase nationwide— salaries climbed just 5.7 percent.
