A Yuma resident who had an arrest warrant in the U.S. was arrested Tuesday by state and federal police officers, said the state Secretary of Public Safety.
Authorities said Jesús Gerardo Garibay Félix, 26, was arrested at Sur Street at Colonia Bellavista, close to the Downtown Port of Entry.
According to authorities, the U.S. Marshals released an alert regarding the suspect who might have fled by crossing the border.
State Preventive police agents found and arrested the suspect.
Garibay Félix had an arrest warrant since last year for drug smuggling.
The fugitive was transported to the Mexican National Immigration Institute to begin his deportation process.
Men arrested for robbery
Two men were arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly committing a robbery at a taco restaurant close to the Downtown Port of Entry, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 7:44 a.m. a robbery was reported at Tacos Doña Estela from Michoacán Avenue and Tuxtla Gutiérrez Street at Colonia Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood.
A 47-year-old woman told police officers two suspects arrived on scene and brandished a firearm to threaten her.
The suspects took a brown purse with the victim’s documents and 500 pesos, as well as a speaker and a gas container.
The suspects fled on a white 1997 Ford Taurus with California plates.
Police officers observed the suspect vehicle at Veracruz Alley and Salina Cruz Street.
The individuals, who were identified as Jonathan “Doe” and Antonio “Doe”, both 26, attempted to flee on foot but were arrested moments later.
Police agents did not find the firearm, authorities said.
The suspects were transported to the police headquarters to begin their processing.
Eatery employees robbed
At least two people robbed restaurant employees Tuesday morning while the eatery was still closed for customers, according to media reports.
Authorities told reporters a robbery was reported at 11 a.m. at Real do Brasil restaurant at Lázaro Cárdenas Blvd., near the intersection with Anáhuac Blvd.
The suspects entered the site by the back door, which is always left open, a fact known only by employees.
The suspects brandished firearms and threatened the employees.
According to the reports, the suspects left scene with purses, rings, money and cell phones.
The suspects fled on a Jeep Cherokee which apparently is owned by a former restaurant employee.
Police officers tried to find and arrest the suspects with no results.
Detectives took the videos from the restaurant cameras to begin the investigations.
Homicide suspect arrested
A man who allegedly killed another male last year was apprehended by state police officers, said the state Secretary of Public Safety.
Authorities said Oscar Candelario “Doe”, aka “El Zombi”, 21, escaped to La Rumorosa after the Jan. 2015 murder reported at Fraccionamiento Hacienda de Castilla in southern Mexicali.
Police officers determined after months of investigations the suspect’s whereabouts.
Police officers found and arrested the suspect at mountain area of La Rumorosa town in the neighboring municipality of Tecate.
Authorities said Oscar Candelario had an active arrest warrant since Nov. 2015 for the homicide of Luis “Doe”.
The suspect and other male arrived at the victim’s residence.
After meeting with the victim, the suspects questioned him regarding a backpack with drugs.
One of the suspects hit the victim on the head with a wood stick.
The victim was left unconscious in an abandoned home and was transported later to the General Hospital where days later succumbed to the injuries.
Convenience store robbed
Three teenagers were arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly committing a robbery in a 7-Eleven store, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said at 9:40 a.m. a robbery was reported at the convenience store at Lázaro Cárdenas Blvd. and Afrodita Street.
The police said the minors arrived with two knives and threatened the store employee.
The suspects left scene with 517 pesos, US $20, and 22 packages of cigarettes.
The teenagers were found and arrested 30 minutes later at Tulcingo Avenue and La Merced Street at Fraccionamiento Angeles de Puebla in southeastern Mexicali.
The suspects were identified as Jesús Daniel “Doe”, 17; Jesús Andrés “Doe”, 15; and José Francisco “Doe”, 16.
The minors were transported to the police headquarters to begin their processing.
