    Vehicles reported stolen recovered

    State police officers recovered in recent days 143 vehicles that were reported stolen, an official said.

    Assistant Attorney General in Mexicali Fernando Ramírez said the troopers launched a special operation July 7-22 to find the vehicles.

    Along with Mexicali police agents and federal officers authorities found the vehicles in San Felipe and Mexicali, as well as in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico where 69 of the vehicles were located.

    Ramírez said 90 percent of the vehicles were found in good conditions.

    The Attorney General’s office has a Stolen Vehicles Investigation Unit located by Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard at Fraccionamiento Infonavit Cucapah in southern Mexicali.

     

    Man shot to death

    A man was shot to dead early Friday by unknown suspects, authorities said.

    According to a report made by the emergency center, the victim was shot at 1:18 a.m. at Lago Cuitzeo Avenue and Third Street at Fraccionamiento Villa del Rey Quinta Etapa in southern Mexicali.

    According to the report, several suspects on a black Jeep Cherokee shot the victim, who was driving a Toyota Camry.

    The victim crashed on a residence, authorities said.

    Red Cross paramedics transported the victim to Mexicali’s General Hospital.

    Hospital staff declared the victim’s death.

    The victim was identified as Jesús Enrique Vázquez.

    No more details were provided.

     

    Man found dead

    A man was found dead Thursday floating on a canal, authorities reported.

    Mexicali police department said the corpse was found at 12:43 p.m. by kilometer 43 of the Independencia Canal.

    Authorities said the decomposed body was decapitated and had no arms and no legs.

    The man was dressed on denim jeans.

    A 43-year-old man found the body and made a report to the emergency center while cleaning the canal, the police said.

     

    Over 900 people attend shelter

    Over 900 residentes have received services at the temporary shelter in order to protect themselves from high temperatures.

    Family Development Department chief María Romero said as of Thursday 916 people have gone to Colonia Guajardo’s Casa de la Cultura de la Juventud west of the Civic Center.

    The shelter offers a seven-hour air conditioned place, as well as food, water, medical service and showers.

    The goal of the site is to help residents avoid high temperatures.

    The shelter has capacity for 80 people with areas for men and women and children.

    Police officers and firefighters can transport those who need it by dialing the police hotline 066.
