Cocaine seized to drug smuggling organization

State police officers seized Tuesday 112.4 pounds of cocaine to an alleged member of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel member, said the Secretary of Public Safety.

Authorities said Iván “Doe,” 24, was arrested at Colonia Altabrisa on a white 2008 Dodge Caravan.

The suspect was caught while allegedly attempted to hide several packages of the drug inside a special compartment in the vehicle, authorities said.

According to the agency, the suspect was presumably preparing the packages to cross them to the United States.

The cocaine had an estimated value of 51 million pesos or US $3 million.

The secretary said the seizure was made after the arrest of other members of the cartel in Mexicali and Tijuana.

The suspect and the drugs were turned to the federal Attorney General’s office.

    Robbery suspect arrested

A 36-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday in downtown after allegedly assaulting a man to rob the victim, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.

Authorities said at 2 a.m. a call was made to the emergency center regarding the incident reported at Madero Avenue and Ayuntamiento Street.

The 43-year-old victim told police officers that two men punched him in order to rob him money and left on foot.

Police agents found and arrested one of the suspects, who was identified as Saúl “Doe.”

The suspect was transported to the police headquarters to begin his processing.

    Job creation report released

The state of Baja California observed the adding of 24,146 new jobs during the first four months of the year, said the Secretary of Economic Development.

In a press release, the agency said those jobs were reported to the Mexican Institute of Social Security, or IMSS in Spanish.

The state has created 6.8 percent of total new jobs nationwide, making Baja California second in the northern border and sixth in Mexico.

Unemployment rate was 2.9 percent in March, lower than the 4.1 percent reported during the same month of 2015.

However, the agency warned about a possible reduction in job creation for the rest of this year.

The agency said the challenge for the labor market in the state is to improve hiring practices, strengthen promotion strategies, and expansion of investments.

The Mexican Secretary of Labor said 4,121 new jobs were reported on April. There were 4,942 new permanent jobs and 319 temporary urban new jobs. Temporary rural jobs observed a loss of 1,140 jobs.
