    Female homicide unit created

Members of the Baja California state Assembly approved Thursday a bill that, if enacted, would create a Specialized Unit for Female Homicides within the Attorney General’s office.

The measure was introduced by Assemblyman Francisco Barraza, a Mexicali member of the Baja California State Party.

The bill modifies the state Attorney General’s office Organic Law to include the special agency that would have detectives, investigators, agents, staff support and equipment to investigate murders against women.

The bill mandates the releasing of an agreement to create the special unit 180 days after its enactment.

Barraza said the unit staff needs knowledge of laws and an appropriate profile to investigate cases.

Murders against women are based on discrimination and subordination as for thousands of years females have been and are still subjugated to men.

Barraza said he hopes the unit could help bring homicide suspects to justice and become a tool to prevent violence against women.

    Man sentenced for cop murder

A man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of a Mexicali police officer and a civilian, said the Attorney General’s office.

In a press release, authorities said Francisco “Doe,” no age reported, was accused for the Oct. 31, 2015 murder of agent Rosalino Pascual Jiménez.

The suspect was stopped by police officers at Fraccionamiento Vistas del Valle while driving a 2001 Nissan X-Terra with plates from the state of Sinaloa.

The suspect’s mother was a passenger on the vehicle, authorities said.

Suddenly, the suspect shot the patrol car in which the officer was at, as well as a detained man, whom authorities identified as Havie Francisco Ramírez García.

The suspect got on board of his vehicle and fled but was stopped and arrested moments later by police agents.

The judge declared the suspect guilty of homicide and property damage and ordered him to pay a fine of $583.33.

The suspect’s mother, who was identified as Blanca Myrna “Doe,” was sentenced to 9 months and 24 days of prison for concealing a criminal and ordered her a payment of 1.4 million pesos or $80,993.16 in damage repair.

The woman was originally accused of murder as well, but authorities could not gather enough evidence to press charges for that crime, authorities said.

    Men indicted for robbery

Two men were indicted separately for their alleged involvement with a couple of robberies against a beauty salon and a gas station.

The Attorney General’s office said a judge indicted Christian Eduardo “Doe,” no age reported, for the robbery reported on Aug. 13 at Estética Mony beauty salon, located at Zomora Avenue at Colonia Granjas Nuevas.

Authorities said at 1:30 p.m. the suspect arrived on scene and brandished a knife against a customer and took her purse.

The suspect was arrested blocks ahead in possession of the knife and the purse.

Another judge indicted Guillermo “Doe,” no age reported, for the Aug. 17 robbery committed at the Gasmart gas station, located at San Felipe Highway at Fraccionamiento El Dorado in southern Mexicali.

The suspect allegedly arrived on scene and brandished a knife towards an employee to rob her 500 pesos or $27.78 and fled on a Ford Explorer.

    The suspect was eventually arrested.

The judge gave detectives two months to close the investigation in both cases, authorities said.
